A Questionably Accurate History of That Glorious Snack

Peanut M&Ms were created by the goddess Persephone when she returned from the underworld. She wanted a small, crunchable snack that she could always have with her so she would have safe food if she ever got kidnapped into the underworld again. At first they were merely spheres of candy coated chocolate, but her mother insisted she include something with nutritional value, so Persephone placed a peanut in the middle of each sphere. Thus a noble snack was born. The name "M&Ms" comes from a satchel of Persephone's found in an archeological dig. It had two sigmas stamped into it (likely standing for Superior Snack) which, when turned sideways, resemble the letter "m".

Peanut M&M Shops

The Oldest Shop

Persephone first started selling her candy creations after she caught Hades snitching from her stash on one of her visits. She figured that if the god of the underworld was stealing them she might be able to make a profit and opened a shop when she got back to the surface. It took a little while for the snack to catch on, but soon all the gods on Olympus were talking about Persephone's Superior Snack. Unfortunately, most of them didn't want to pay, so she made most of her profits from mortals. Since she had an in with Hades and appreciated the purchases, Persephone made sure all purchasers of her candy avoided Tartarus in the afterlife.

Are Peanut M&Ms Healthy?

Persephone certainly thinks so. They have peanuts in them! And we need only to listen to Mr. Peanut of Planters to know how healthy peanuts are. And they have chocolate, which is made from cocoa beans, and cocoa beans grow on trees and are therefore vegetables.

Demeter, however, does not agree. She enjoys peanut M&Ms, but worries they lack some essential nutrients, and has been trying for years to convince her daughter that cocoa beans are not vegetables.
